City of Kigali has announced two new locations from where fireworks will be launched to welcome 2018. Apart from Kigali Convention Centre in Gasabo District, authorities have planned new locations from where New year fireworks will be launched: Mount Kigali (In Nyarugenge District) and Mount Rebero (in Kicukiro District). It will be the first time fireworks will be displayed above the two hills and their surroundings and owing to the choice of these places it is expected that people from near and afar will witness the fireworks when it clocks midnight a couple of hours from now. City residents have been alerted not to be alarmed when the fireworks go off. At the beginning of the closing year, the only fireworks over Kigali were launched from Kigali Convention Centre. The new locations will add Kigali to a list of global cities which welcome the New Year with dazzling fireworks. Some parts of the world, including Australia, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand have already welcomed 2018 with spectacular fireworks displays. At Kigali Convention Centre, revellers will be treated to thrilling performances by Nigerian superstar Yemi Alade and Kenya’s boy band Sauti Sol, while across the street, outside Kigali Heights, local stars including Bruce Melodie will also perform to crowds who will be ushering in 2018.
